FAA Order 8900.1, Vol. 5, Ch. 9, Section 2:

Regulates and sets the standards and training requirements needed for the addition of an Authorized Experimental Aircraft Authorization (AEAA), such as the Fouga CM-170 or the CE-T37, to a pilot certificate.

The Federal Aviation Administration's Office of Commercial Space Transportation Division, licenses and regulates all aspects of Commercial Human Spaceflight Crew Training,  U.S. Commercial launch, and  re-entry  spaceflight activities.  In recent publications, the Agency cites High Performance Aircraft Jet Training as "The most effective tool for preparing Human Spaceflight Crews." -An applicant seeking an AEAA must meet the following requirements:

A. To be eligible for an authorization to act as PIC of a surplus military turbojet-powered aircraft, an applicant must:

(1) Possess at least a U.S. private pilot certificate with an appropriate category and class rating (i.e., airplane, multi-engine land);
(2) Hold an instrument rating;
(3) Possess at least a valid U.S. third-class medical certificate;
(4) Have logged a minimum of 500 hours of pilot flight time in the aircraft category and have completed the U.S. armed services qualification checkout described in paragraph 5-1582 A(1) of Order 8900.1, Vol. 5, Section 2, or
(5) Have logged a minimum of 1,000 hours pilot flight time, including 500 hours as PIC in the aircraft category, and have completed one of the training requirements of paragraph 5-1582(A) of Order 8900.1, Vol. 5, Sect. 2.
