Experience Flight in a Legendary Fighter Jet Training Aircraft!

History of the Dragonfly

The A-37 "Dragonfly" or "Super Tweet" was designed as an improved version or derivative of the Cessna T-37 Jet Training Aircraft (which the USAF recently retired in July 2009).  The Dragonfly's conceptual design intended to fill the need (during the Vietnam Conflict) for a light attack, counter insurgency aircraft, with improved long range capabilities for the United States Air Force.   A-37s were designed to replace the Douglas A-1 "Skyraiders" in the Vietnam Combat theater.   The A-37 and all its variants (A-37As to A-37Bs) served with distinction since their initial operational deployment in August of 1967, during "Operation Combat Dragon" in Bien Hoa, Vietnam, until their retirement in the 1980s.  Super Tweets  (as they were affectionately known) primarily performed "Air Commando" missions in Vietnam. Later, their mission changed to that of Forward Air Controllers (FACs). All A-37s were eventually retired from front line Active Duty service, and transferred to different Air National Guard & Air Force Reserve Units until they were retired in the 1980s.  The Dragonfly was ultimately replaced by the Fairchild-Republic (now Lockheed Martin) A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the "Warthog".  Several countries continued to operate the  A-37 in the attack, training, and in the air demonstration team role throughout the world (e.g. Korea, Peru, South Vietnam, Australia, etc.).   In the United States today, restored A-37s continue to fly as relics of history in museums throughout the country, and  within  warbird community for training, exhibition, and educational purposes .
